Neil Young and Crazy Horse Debut New Tune and Add Jam Segment To Hey Hey, My My at Australian Tour Opener

Neil Young and Crazy Horse played their first show of the year last night, when they opened a brief Australian/New Zealand tour at Perth Arena in Perth, Australia. While they mostly stuck to the same script as 2012’s Alchemy tour dates, there were a few surprises for the Aussie crowd.

For their fifth song of the 13-song main set, Neil and his longtime band debuted a new original called Hole In The Sky. According to our friends at Thrasher’s Wheat, the song references the ozone layer. At last year’s shows Young broke up his main set with an acoustic performance of The Needle and the Damage Done. Yesterday he substituted his classic song Heart of Gold which made its Alchemy Tour debut. Also of note, Neil and the Horse added a bit of a noise jam to the end of Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black). The group vamps on a new segment in which they sing “Don’t Say It’s Over” again and again. Check it out… (starts at 5:30 mark)
