Perusing this year’s Bonnaroo schedule, Sunday afternoon appears to have curious potential. Beginning at 4:15PM at That Tent, banjo virtuoso and Punch Brothers member Noam Pikelny plays an hour set billed as Noam Pikelny and Friends. Then, two members of bluegrass royalty Sam Bush and Del McCoury perform together for an hour. Finally, funny man Ed Helms has an hour-and-a-half slot billed as the “Ed Helms’ Bluegrass Situation Superjam.”
Given the proximity of the Ed Helms set to Noam Pikelny, Sam Bush, Del McCoury and the proximity to Nashville’s abundance of other bluegrass ringers, the Bluegrass Superjam could be a sleeper for one of the more entertaining sets of the weekend. Unfortunately, in order to see it festivalgoers will have to make a tough decision as it overlaps with portions of the National and the David Byrne & St. Vincent sets, but it might just be worth it.
