Cover Alert: The Roots & Jim James – Use Me (Bill Withers), I Could Never Take… (Prince), Instant Karma (John Lennon)

The Roots and Jim James teamed up to play Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Bandshell on Tuesday night. The My Morning Jacket front man kicked off the show with a set heavy on material from his solo album and was followed by a set from The Roots. Jim James returned for a collaborative encore that started off with The Roots/Monsters of Folk track Dear God 2.0 and concluded with covers of I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man (Prince), Instant Karma! (John Lennon) and Use Me (Bill Withers).

Both James and The Roots have long professed their appreciation for soul legend Bill Withers, making the cover all the more special. Check out fan-shot footage of Use Me thanks to dillsnufus
