AmericanaramA Memphis: Bob Dylan Swaps Guitarists Mid-Tour + John Prine Guests With My Morning Jacket

Well, it took five shows, but Bob Dylan’s set was finally the biggest story out of an AmericanaramA tour stop last night, though not for the reasons we’d hope for. Guitarist Duke Robillard has left the tour and Bob Dylan has replaced him with Charlie Sexton. Sexton was Dylan’s lead guitarist from 1999 to 2002 and again from 2009 to 2012. Dylan made no mention of the switch during last night’s set, featuring Sexton on guitar, at Autozone Park in Memphis and didn’t welcome any guests. According to a comment

In other news from the show, My Morning Jacket brought out country-folk singer John Prine to sit in on his own All The Best. MMJ recorded their take on All The Best for a 2010 tribute album called Broken Hearts and Dirty Windows – Songs of John Prine. Jim James performed All The Best with John Prine on a 2010 visit to The Late Show with David Letterman.  Meanwhile, Wilco continues to change it up extensively from night-to-night.

UPDATE: Robillard contacted us to make it clear he left the tour on his own accord and wishes nothing but the best Bob, his band and the organization.

  1. I assume this is the order on this tour: MMJ, Wilco and Dylan closing. Since this tour was announced I’ve been wondering who would play when. While from a rockstar/name recognition perspective it makes sense that Dylan closes, but for maximized rockage, it should be Dylan, Wilco, MMJ

  2. Looking forward to their stop in Saratoga on the 21st. Didn’t even know Duke was playing with Dylan, but now that appears moot. Sexton is excellent though- saw him with Zimmie a coupla times. Agreed on the order of events; my wife will be happy that MMJ is before Wilco so she can make an early nite of it and leave me behind to see Bob and my third Wilco show in a month!

  3. Duke Robillard,
Was at the Tampa show. Thank you for your excellent guitar work. God Bless,
