Peter Gabriel, Yes Earn Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominations

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The nominees for the 2014 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been revealed. Rolling Stone announced the list earlier today, and there are some surprisingly excellent choices, including Peter Gabriel, Yes, The Zombies, Deep Purple, and some obscure band named Nirvana.

While we’re certainly pleased with the eclecticism of the list (which also includes Chic, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Kiss, Hall and Oates, LL Cool J, Link Wray, The Meters, N.W.A., Cat Stevens, and Linda Ronstadt), it’s especially exciting to see Gabriel and Yes get their dues. No artist/band is more overdue for an induction than these two, and it’s especially encouraging given that the Hall has clearly shown resistance toward prog and art-rock in the past. (Rush’s 2013 induction seems to have broken down some literal boundaries.)

You can take part in the vote over at Rolling Stone. If you do, be sure to show our boys some love.

Rush’s induction speech:

Yes – “Heart of the Sunrise” (Live)

Peter Gabriel – “In Your Eyes” (Live)
