Trey Anastasio Orchestral Piece Debuting In Nashville

An orchestral work penned by Phish frontman Trey Anastasio and Orchestra Nashville composer-in-residence Don Hart will premiere Sept. 27 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.

"Time Turns Electric," on which Anastasio has been working for the past 18 months, blends voice and guitar with orchestral passages in a vein said to resemble Phish epics such as "The Divided Sky" and "Fluffhead."

Anastasio and Hart first collaborated at Bonnaroo in 2004, and again on Anastasio’s 2006 album "Bar 17."

"I’ve never come close to the collaboration I’ve had with Don Hart," he says. "A lot of work done on this piece is conceptual conversations. It’s a true collaboration."

There’s no word yet on whether "Time Turns Electric" will be released in some form.
