Courtney Barnett Releases New Track “Depreston”, Debut LP Out 3/24

Courtney Barnett’s debut album is due out later this month and the release is proving to be a highly anticipated affair. Another song from the LP Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit is today available for those who pre-order the album. The song “Depreston” contains some of her most poetic imagery, in it she details several very specific scenes which actually point a much larger picture about life & death and the decisions/situations we find ourselves in when moving into responsibility and adulthood. It juxtaposes the sadness of the old lady who lived in the house with a disability, against the blunt pragmatism of a real-estate agent. “Aren’t the pressed metal ceilings great” – “you could knock it down and just start rebuilding.”

Courtney Barnett and her band The Courtney Barnetts will be returning to the US this month and will be playing SXSW. Her full lineup of shows will be released shortly, but today NPR revealed she will be playing their showcase at Stubbs. This follows yesterday’s announcement by Pitchfork that Barnett will also be bringing her full blown rock and roll show to one of their day parties at Mohawk. Courtney is also teaming up with Tumblr for a special day party down in Austin where she will host a gallery-style exhibition of her original artwork as well as play a live set. The full SXSW schedule will be announced in the coming week.
