  1. Ace and I were discussing how there wasn’t much hype surrounding this years X-mas jam. It hit me today that the reason is Dave Matthews. Dave can fill up the Asheville Civic Center by himelf; therefore Warren didn’t need to get too crazy with the lineup.

  2. Gotta love the “I shall be released” closer – kind of sounds familiar like some movie….. – still waiting for the Xmas Jam film to come out

  3. You know it, Rico — any show that ends in I Shall Be Released can’t be all that bad, even if it doesn’t feature a stage full of coked out musicians trying to find the feeling in their faces…

  4. In my opinion the whole night was fantastic. Taj Mahal was a definite treat to see and the nearly 7.5 hours of music was fantastic. Dave was his usual intoxicated self, but didn’t let it show in his playing. The Cortez the Killer, Watchtower combo was potent. The Sugaree gave me a refreshing case of the willies and the I Shall Be Released was the most crushing version I’ve ever heard.
Great show, great city, great people, great venue.
Not one complaint (except maybe for the appearance of Taylor “Soul Patrol” Hicks, who was obviously out of his element).
I plan on making this a yearly event from now on.

  5. It was my first Xmas jam and I’m gonna make it annual event for sure. I had no idea the show was going rock on longer than a flight to Europe and was just floored by ‘Cortez’ and ‘Long Black Veil’. Hell, Marty Stuart’s ‘The Shape I’m In’ was worth the drive. Grabbed the torrents already. Screw Bing Crosby…we’re gonna be opening presents to Gov’t Mule.
