The Return of Jimmy Stewart

Umphrey’s released the first compilation of “Jimmy Stewarts” last year, and that album featured the best improvisations from August 2004 through February 2005. But McLennand feels the band’s method of jamming has evolved in the years between, for the better: “As they’ve progressed, there’s more focus on substance, really fleshing out each section as far as they can, chasing the melody. It’s always the most melodic jams that are remembered the best. And they also make the best material for their lego-writing style.” Well said, McL.

Look for a free third disc worth of material to be released in the next few days as part of Umphrey’s podcast series. The band returns to the road on Friday night to start a tour that will last the majority of 2007.
