The B List: Weirdest Edition Yet

10. Close But No Cigar – Straight Outta Lynwood (13th album)

Starting off, we have a track off Al’s last album. No, it’s not a Bill Clinton tribute, but rather why Al would never marry Hillary. Okay, it has nothing to do with any Clinton, but it’s pretty funny. If you thought Seinfeld was neurotic about women, wait ’til you hear Al.

The video is actually done by the guy who brought you Ren & Stimpy:

9. One More Minute – Dare To Be Stupid (3rd album)

This is the first original I fell in love with; it has a very familiar doo-wop feel. This is one of two break-up songs that make this list. Something about silly lyrics, and serious music, always gets me going. If you ever had a girlfriend that you hated and wanted to break up with, this is the song for you. Actually, you might end up playing it for your girlfriend, instead of breaking up.

8. Wanna B Ur Lovr – Poodle Hat (12th album)

Check out how smooth Al is with his pick up lines, and I dare you to keep a straight face.  The sexual innuendos alone are enough to keep you laughing out loud. Some are so distasteful, that you might try using these on girls in your local watering hole (I know I have). This fan-made video is set to Buffy the Vampire Slayer clips.

7. Midnight Star – In 3-D (2nd album)

Everyone loves rag magazines, and Al is no exception. After hearing this song, you might just find yourself humming this tune next time you’re in line at the local Kwik E Mart. You will read the headlines and start singing your own lines. Here’s a fan-made anime video:

6. The Night Santa Went Crazy – Bad Hair Day (10th album)

No explanation needed, unless you have never eaten reindeer sausage. Here’s a live concert clip:

5. You Don’t Love me Anymore – Off the Deep End (8th album)

In the second break-up song of this countdown, Al lets you know some of the signs that your relationship is over. The lyrics to this song are so rich and full of satire, it will have you wondering if your girlfriend still loves you.

4. Albuquerque –  Running with Scissors (11th album)

Lil’ diddy ‘bout Al and his quest to leave home and go to a place “Where the sun is always shining and the air smells like warm root beer.” More than a song, this is an epic journey with twists and turns, not to mention one-nostriled people and scuba masks. This song is the true definition of Al. Many believe Dylan is the greatest storyteller of all time…I beg to differ.

3. Don’t Download This Song – Straight Outta Lynwood (13th album)

This is from Al’s latest album, and of course, was offered as a free download. Besides being an extremely timely song, the We Are the World feel is priceless, and it’s great to hear Al belittle the “holier-than-thou” musicians.

2. Genius in France – Poodle Hat (12th album)

Zappa is infamous for his humor in music, and served as perhaps the biggest inspiration musically for Al. Dweezel Zappa adds guitar on this homage to his father for an even more authentic sound. This song just oozes Zappa. Once again, I found the best fan-made video available.

1. The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota – UHF (7th album)

The rarest and most sought after song to hear at a Weird Al Show. On 5/25/96, I was lucky enough to finally hear it at Al’s Show in Red Bank, NJ (I haven’t seen it again in concert since). The entire crowd erupted, and many used it as an excuse to dance around the entire theater — everyone was on the same page. This song’s what Al and America is “AL” about: spider-man comics and mama’s homemade rhubarb pie.
