You Should See His Rusty Trombone Skills

“Man, I don’t even have any words for you right now.” –Kenny Crumpton

Sure this video qualifies as fodder for music blogs, insomuch as it mentions two instruments prominently. Problem is, neither are actually instruments at all. But I’ve watched this clip 10 times in the last five minutes, and I’m still paralyzed by the same giggle fits that permeate a middle-school class taught by a lazy-eyed stutterer.

Watch as the dynamic morning-show duo of Wayne Dawson and Tracy McCool, Fox 8 in Cleveland‘s most agreeable sunrisers, toss it to field reporter Kenny Crumpton for an on-the-hobby-store-scene report about slot car racing. That’s all the set-up you need for this greatness. We recommend multiple viewings:

Now, three quick items of import here:

1. The correspondent’s reaction is priceless. If Andy Gray were here he’d say of Kenny Crumpton: “Take a bow, son. I mean that, take a bow — you have been immense.” Kudos bar to Big K for having the most affable possible reaction to a rather questionable public slight of his character. How much would you love to have been in the control room for the commercial break that followed Kenny’s live tease?

2. Dawson stumbled through his own tease before eventually unleashing a sentence that changed pitch four times and contained the phrase “…a cahntest for air guitahrisst.” The delivery is both horrendous and awesome, and like that episode of 30 Rock, it makes me want to wake up every morning in Cleveland.

3. The only possible addition to this video that would thereby maximize it to the fullest potential would be Blacku-weatherman Ali Williams. In fact, as funny as the “skin flute” clip is, this Best of Ali Williams clip my roommate just stumbled upon is just as uproarious. “It’s gon’ rain!” gets me every time.

  1. My only regret is that I did not have the vcr running. I know Wayne Dawson. He is a great guy. Just can’t figure out what he could have been thinking when he said that. Oh, yeah, I wet myself laughing when I heard and saw it happen live on the air.
