VIDEO PREMIERE: Jimbo Mathus – “Blue Healer”

Few artists are nailing Southern roots rock and roll better than Jimbo Mathus these days. This is a fact that is solidified by the Mississippi artist and his band the Tri-State Coalition’s impressive output of three albums in the last three years, all of which will leave you floored and wondering why the hell he’s not a bigger deal. In regards to his most recent album, Blue Healer, one reviewer summed it up best in writing “Jimbo Mathus is true gritty Americana at his best, and on his new record Blue Healer, he evokes those images of dusty dirt roads, tattered flags and cold beers.”

Mathus is as intertwined with his beloved Mississippi as kudzu, and beyond the songwriting, he is a massively talented musician who has played with the likes of Elvis Costello and Buddy Guy among many others. He is a true child of the South, and not the one that falls victim to negative stereotypes, but the one of rich cultural and musical heritage. All of this can be heard on the title track from Blue Healer, and we are are excited to premiere the new video for it right here on Glide.

Mathus took a minute to give a little background on the song and the video: “‘Blue Healer’ is the title track from my newest Fat Possum Records release. The video is the second collaboration between Mathus and  3AM filmmaker Don Adams. It was filmed in Tallahatchie County Mississippi and Los Angeles, CA and features dancer/actress/artist Ave Rose as the Blue Healer. We turned the Gris-Gris factor up to 10 on this. Get some on ya!!!” —Jimbo Mathus
