VIDEO PREMIERE: Otis Taylor – “They Wore Blue”

Boulder, Colorado’s Otis Taylor just released one of this year’s most profoundly psychedelic albums. Hey Joe Opus/Red Meat is a sprawling work anchored by the guitarist’s “trance blues” takes on Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe”. Taylor’s gruff vocals combined with his otherworldly guitar tones and playing are as haunting as they are electrifying, and the music sounds as if it rose from the mountains of Taylor’s home. The album also features guests Warren Haynes, Langhorne Slim and String Cheese Incident’s Bill Nershi.

You are welcome to check out our review of Otis Taylor’s new album, and today we are excited to premiere the new video for “They Wore Blue”. Filmed by Josh Stewart on grainy washed out film, the video does not feature Taylor himself – or even anyone playing instruments for that matter. It does however manage to capture the moody spirit of the instrumental tune as the filmmaker takes a cinéma vérité approach to following an unnamed couple as they immerse themselves in their environment and personal romance. Sound weird? It is.

  1. Top shelf stuff from Otis. His sound crosses many genres. Would love to see him tour with a full band and production which can replicate this live.
