The Police Come Full Circle in Paris

Paging Pete Best: Henry Padovani played with The Police on Saturday night for the first time since he was unceremoniously fired from the band in 1977. Padovani joined his old mates at the Stade Olympique in Paris for a rousing rendition of Next To You, showing that time does indeed heal all wounds.

Last night marks the first time The Police have played as a quartet in 30 years. Padovani was the original guitar player for The Police, which featured two guitarists for a brief period in the summer of ’77 after Andy Summers joined the band. Summers shortly thereafter gave Sting and Stewart Copeland the “It’s him or me” ultimatum, leading quickly to Padovani’s termination.

Henry went on to join a number of bands before entering the business world as the Vice President of IRS Records from 1984-1994. In 2006 Padovani recorded a solo album (that doesn’t appear to have been released yet), which included guest spots from both Sting and Copeland. The Police return to the States on Halloween, where they will perform at Madison Square Garden.

  1. I was gonna say Copeland looks like Carol Channing. In other news, I didn’t know that that French guy from “The Professional” used to be in The Police!
