Nice that you end this post with a nod to Ryan Adams and his friendship with Phil.
It was on display Friday as Ryan sat in with Phil & Friends for a monster 3rd set and Encore at the Nokia Theater in Times Square.
Head over to the philzone if you want the play-by-play — all I can muster up here is a “WOW”
One of those life-changing nights, one of those sets that will never – can’t ever – be played the same way again. Phil tore it down old-school, acid-test style and took the room on a journey, with Ryan supplying haunting, gripping vocals. Wharf Rat is where it started, but that was just the launching pad. It all peaked around the time Molitz pierced the space and we heard “Eclipse” (AND THE SUN IS ECLIPSED BY THE MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON).
Like most of us I’ve seen a lot of shows, and pray I live to see many more. But there will never be another one like that.
Much love to Phil, Ryan and the gang.
If you’re in NYC and you haven’t caught a show on this run yet, get yourself over to the Nokia Theater pronto.

Was this 3rd setlist a misprint? HOly Shit Simp, you were not kidding about: “One of those life-changing nights, one of those sets that will never – can’t ever – be played the same way again”
On paper, this set is monster. in person, it must have been…well., like an eclipse.

thanks HT for the Bo Diddly 70’s drop in. Man, this is why Glide kicks sooo much ass some time.
Still can’t say enough about the third set with Ryan Adams. A lot of people have a lot of hate for him, but I don’t get it. Dude was hanging tough while Phil took us down into the ether – that dark swirly place where all the songs are formed and eventually return. I swear there were points when they were playing all the Dead’s songs at once.
Haven’t given it a listen yet – waiting till I get home so I can settle in, achieve the right state of mind, and delve back into this monster.

I love the song Jam! So much better than Filler, or Donor Rap.
