Once again, it’s time to take a look at those end-of-year superlative lists that get people more riled up and outraged than the thought of a dogfight in Virginia.
Our proud corporate papa hath spoken, so click here to see what 20 releases constitute this year’s Top 20 list (in alphabetical order, no ranking). It’s been a great year for music, and I love the results, save a few glaring omissions. Notably, I’m not sure I can hold my tongue when a list fails to include LCD Soundsystem’s Sound of Silver among the best two dozen or so albums of the year.
Shit, perhaps I’ve said too much. I’ll likely be grounded this weekend.

But if a list doesn’t rank them in order, how can I be an arrogant jerk about it in the comments section?! For shame, Glide!
No Wilco! Not even in the Honorable Mentions?? That’s quite a glaring omission,
pretty decent list – I agree with most of those. Wow, The National is getting major love this year end – I have to get that disc
I agree on Wilco, SD…I agree with myself on LCD Soundsystem. I can’t believe there’s no love for the Arctic Monkeys’ sophomore effort. Hidden Track’s list will be similar but much different, which rings true for many differences of opinion between parents and their spawn.
where is levon helm biatches??
As it is all a matter of opinion, I can enjoy any list that gives an explanation. A numbered list with no explanation is like handing in a math test with no work shown. Bravo Glide on that, and also, inre Wilco, can’t agree more that it ISN’T on the top 20…not one of their best efforts.
David Vandervelde – The Moonstation House Band gets a vote from me.
I like Band of Horses ‘Cease To Begin’, but I don’t think it’s more sturdy than their debut release, I like the first disc better.
Lots of good discs listed under honorable mention while Grace Potter gets a Top 20 nod, dunno about that. . .
ya know, a pretty damn good list IMO>
the only ‘eh’s’ I had was Band of Horses and Explosions in the Sky. i would have taken them out and DEFINITELY given Assembly of Dust some major love for “Recollection”, perhaps the best album of the year!
other than that, rock solid list and was happy to see Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings getting some more love!
Give AOD top honors.
And no Dr. Dog either!!! What kind of Best Of list is this???
glad to see Oakley Hall getting some live…i’ve had that disc on repeat for a while now
What the Eff!!!! Where are the Foo Fighters?
