Pullin’ ‘Tubes: MMJ Busts It Big

We’re getting closer and closer to the release of My Morning Jacket’s new album, Evil Urges, and the band has just started gearing up for a massive round of publicity. While we thought these guys did a lot of press in 2006, we expect to see Jim James’ face plastered everywhere by the end of this cycle.

Just this weekend we found out that MMJ will make their Saturday Night Live debut on May 10, exactly one month before the album drops. The band also announced that will play a special show in their hometown of Louisville on August 16.

Billboard’s Jonathan Cohen sat down with the band for one of the first interviews about Evil Urges. It’s really weird to hear how normal Jim James’ speaking voice sounds. I totally expected to hear massive amounts of reverb every time he spoke. Here’s the Billboard Q&A with My Morning Jacket, and a few clips from Saturday night’s MMJ concert in Mexico:

  1. I’m watching the Gram Parsons Return to Sin City DVD (thanks Netflix) and noticed a young strapping Jim James is featured. I’ve watched this DVD a bunch over the last couple of years and never noticed good ‘ol Jim. He does a great job on ‘Still Feeling Blue’. This was well before Z came out which put MMJ on the proverbial map so its a cool treat to see him participating.

Looking forward to seeing MMJ show at Bonnaroo and Radio City this year.
