LoC: Al Gore Lives on My Street (kinda)

Indeed Bush did win, even after the Supreme Court ruling — he still maintained more votes than Gore (1,665 to be exact according to various sources). Gore won the popular vote by more than half a million votes, but unfortunately that has no impact over the Electoral College. It is the state’s electors that determine the winner — not the general population. But honestly, Florida shouldn’t have even been in the mix of discussion — you see, Al couldn’t win his home state of Tennessee, which was a little surprising since Clinton had carried the state the two terms previous to the 2000 elections. But alas, it happened.

But seriously — where would we, as a country, be today if Al Gore was our current Commander-in-Chief?

Would 9/11 have happened?

How would it have been handled?

Would we even be in Iraq?

Would Nawlins still be in dissaray?

What would gas cost us?

Would we be entering a recession?

Would be trying to combat global warming?

One can only imagine where we’d be at as a country. Or for that matter what Al Gore wouldn’t have accomplished since he didn’t get elected. He has since gone on to accomplish many things and add to his ever growing resume, and has become, for a lack of a better term, a Renaissance Man for the 21st century. So let’s take a look and see what has been accomplished by Mr. Gore and President Bush since 2000.

Gore:

  • Author of the best selling book “An Inconvenient Truth”
  • Then there was the movie with the same title that went on to win an Academy Award for best documentary
  • Co-founded and current Chairman of Generation Investment Management
  • Co-founded and current Chairman of Current TV
  • Member of the Board of Directors for Apple Computer, Inc.
  • Senior Advisor to Google (he invented the internet, remember?)
  • Won the Nobel Peace Prize
  • Helped launch Live Earth concerts (watch out for Live Earth Campus in October)
  • Visiting professor at Middle Tennessee State University (my Alma Mater)

Bush:

Granted, we will never be able to know what life would be like with Al & Tipper in the White House as the President and First Lady; but we can imagine and more importantly hope that whomever wins in November does not let history repeat itself.

And just so we’re clear Al Gore doesn’t live down the street from me — but he still thinks every vote should be counted — more so than they were in 2000.
