Tour Diary: The Brew Part 2

Picture leg warmers, krimped hair and Madonna doing the quintessential eighties dance with the fury of a recently slapped silver back gorilla. That sums up the Han Solos. They are a kick ass rock band with the perfect energy and charisma to kick off what would turn out to be a very epic two night run. Dave Drouin (brew guitarist) sits in and dominates a couple classics such as Night Ranger’s Sister Christian.

Our turn. The place is packed. We decided previously that this show would be dedicated to hardcore Brew fans and we gave them the oldie but goodie set, with a sprinklin’ of serious raging. I know the terms “sprinklin” and “raging” cancel each other out but lets roll with this.

Night I: Have to Choose, Guacamole, Birds on a Window, Night Rider> Sharks in the Pool, GCFNME, Samfai, Definitions> Mt. Elf, Looking Down, Ride the Valkry> Fly By Night, New Funk, Seen It All
Encore:Groovin High

Highlights were the new intro we worked out (earlier that day) to the Have to Choose opener (previously un-played for about 6 months) and the encore Groovin’ High which I remember had an amazing response from the kick ass crowd.

Night one closes, success all around. Everyone is happy.

September 6, 2008

Night two, this is the show we shall attempt to slay.

The opener for this show was the danceable madness of The Macpodz. Great band from Michigan, also really cool dudes. You might have seen them rock the beer tent at moe.down as well. We are actually headed out to their stomping grounds in the mid-west in October to play some more shows with them. Operation BrewPodz in effect!

They dominate the slot with chicks dancing crazily front row for a solid hour+ before our set. Sweet band.

This show is sold out despite the torrential downpour going on outside (we had a friend who hydroplaned and wiped out a street lamp, thankfully he was uninjured and made it to the show).

We knew this show was going to rage right from the first precise and percussive hits of the Black Train opener. Crowd freaking, good times all around, happy to be in The Brew.

Night II: Black Train, Hunter’s Moon, First of Things, I Do Believe, Control, Who’s The Boss, Machine, About To Funk, Garden in the Snow, Straight Believin’, Faces*, Chance Reaching> Stefon Erkel> Chance Reaching, Let’s Dance

Encore: Radio Swiss

*Sound engineer Andrew May on slide guitar

Highlights of this show were definitely the Black Train opener and Andrew May, our sound engineer, sitting in on some NASTY slide guitar work. This was a highly successful two night run. Much praise to the Stone Church for being the coolest venue in New Hampshire and abroad. We pray to the sweet god of mercy that this is not our last show there.

Really fun week, now we are gearing up for the Iron Horse, Northampton MA, Higher Ground, Burlington VT, and a couple gigs with State Radio in Waterville, ME. But the BIG show is The Paradise Rock Club, at the end of the month (September 26). Its our first time headlining the legendary 700 seat venue. The Bridge are opening for us at The Paradise. Another kickass band that played at the moe.down too…another group we’ve got a working relationship with, as we’ve visited their home turf for some shows recently.

Reflecting upon these recent times, I am beyond satisfied. Looking into the future I’m feeling optimistic.

So if you dig The Brew and want to support the cause tell your family, friends, co-workers, pets, and anybody under the sun to make the trek to Boston on Friday September 26 to catch our huge show with The Bridge at The Paradise Rock Club. Tickets are only $12 and on sale now at livenation.com!!
