HT Giveaway: Gig Used U-Melt Gear Package

It’s clear that for improvisational artists certain rooms inspire them more than others. Take the case of prog-jammers U-Melt and New York City’s Highline Ballroom: The quartet first visited the Highline on New Year’s Eve, when they delivered a magical performance in one of the city’s most underrated venues. On Friday night, U-Melt brings their complex grooves back to a room that has quickly become a favorite for both the band and the fanbase.

We like bargains on Hidden Track, so we’re down with paying $14 ($16 day of show) for two long sets of U-Melt along with improv-filled support sets from DJ Tucci, Digital Frontier and Psylab. While giving away tickets would have been fun, we decided to up the ante and get creative for the latest edition of Everybody Wins When I Plug Something And In Return They Offer Me Free Shit To Give Away.

Simply leave a comment below naming a band and venue combination that always leads to special shows, and you’ll be entered to win a package of gig used U-Melt gear. After the show the band will put away drummer George Miller’s drumsticks, a copy of the setlist that was taped to the floor, one of Rob Salzer’s guitar picks, a brand-new U-Melt t-shirt and a signed copy of the show poster from the New Year’s Eve show we discussed earlier. The winner of the contest gets it all. So, purchase your tickets and come say hello.

Just to review:

  • To enter the contest leave a comment below telling us about your favorite venue/band combination
  • Your comment must be left by 11:59 PM EST on Sunday October 5
  • Don’t be greedy, only one entry per person
  • One entry will be selected at random from entries that follow the rules
  • Winners receive our Gig Used U-Melt Gear package

  1. Sun Ra @ Sideshows by the Sea

A loooong time ago Sun Ra & John Cage performed a duet show in an little out-of-the-way venue on the boardwalk in Coney Island to promote a new avant garde record label: Meltdown Records.

About 200 people attended this utterly “other” show, complete with interpretive dancers and that infamous John Cage silence, including the members of NRBQ (which was quite surprising for me).

    An unforgettable experience!
