Cover Wars: Young Lust Edition

Blue Floyd: This lineup of Blue Floyd featured Allen Woody (guitar/bass), Matt Abts (drums), Marc Ford (guitar), Johnny Neel (keyboards/harmonica) and Berry Oakley Jr. (bass/percussion). You can also find a recording of Young Lust on Blue Floyd’s new release Begins. Source: 2-11-2000

The Breakfast: Amidst the blistering guitar work of Tim Palmieri, be on the lookout for teases of Show Me Your Soul by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Source: 9-20-2007

Luther Wright and the Wrongs: I have some songs that I will always refer to as “Napster” tracks, and this album is full of them. That is to say I first heard of this band while illegally downloading music in the late 1990’s. And it’s a good thing I did, because this album is full of gems like this one. Be sure to check out their rendition of The Thin Ice. Source: Rebuild The Wall

The Machine: “America’s Premiere Pink Floyd Experience”. The Machine is the most recent addition to our New Year’s Eve Concert Guide. While writing this piece, I realized they are playing Penn’s Peak and running a ticket special that they call the, “Recession Proof New Year’s Eve”. Tickets are $20 if purchased before December 1st. Particle: This is pulled from a set full of instrumental Floyd covers from America’s favorite 3am band. Source: 12-29-2003

Tea Leaf Green: The strongest part of this performance is definitely the tasteful keyboard work of Trevor Garrod in the middle section. Source: 5-4-2007

Umphrey’s McGee: For a while, it looked like Young Lust would be one of the covers forever put on the shelf with Mike Mirro left the band in 2002. But in 2005, to the delight of the fans in attendance, Brendan Bayliss took a shot at the lead vocal duties. Source: Podcast #46

Before we go, take a look at a couple Pink Floyd and Roger Waters performances of the tune:

  1. There was a sick version of this on the Rocks Off a couple years ago. Sadly no one taped the show, so there is no proof it ever happened, so maybe it actually didn’t happen and I just took too much, I took way too much.

    Excellent work again Scotty.
