Have you ever wondered just how to categorize bands like Okkervil River, The Hold Steady and M. Ward? Smart Rock is defined as “music that appeals to a discerning, educated audience and often mellow yet complex” – so pretty much 80% of the music that currently resides on my iPod. You may be a fan of the genre already, check out NPR’s Top Ten Smart Rock Albums of the year and find out if it’s up your alley.
