moe. Kicks Out A Widespread Panic Cover

Indie-jammers moe. returned to New York City this weekend for the first time in eight months and treated the packed crowd at Terminal 5 to two new covers on Friday night. The group opened the show with a fierce cover of Kick Out The Jams by Detroit punk pioneers MC5 sung by Al Schnier.

But the major bust out moment of the weekend went down in the middle of the second set when moe. shocked the audience by unveiling their take on the Widespread Panic anthem Space Wrangler. Al sang this one as well and not only did they nail it but they tacked on a nice ten-minute-plus jam for good measure before slowly segueing into a steamy Timmy Tucker.

moe. seems to be big on jamband covers all of the sudden after dropping Mule’s Thorazine Shuffle on January 31 in Denver. Speaking of jambands, moe. tipped their cap at the Biscuits by inverting Spine of a Dog to end the first set. Thanks to the quick turnaround of two tapers, you can download both shows from the Live Music Archive.

  1. That Space Wrangler caught me completely off guard, they did a great job with it – nice treat in a really solid show. When they finally fixed the flat sound midway through the first set you could literally feel the bombs that Rob was dropping.

  2. scotty b, why is moe. still referred to as ‘indie-jammers’.? i see this often but don’t know why they are indie-jammers and others are just jammers.

  3. Because that’s how they referred to themselves when Wormwood came out, as an indie band. We think they’re a jamband, so I just combine the two.
