Better Than Noodling: M. Ward

I’ve often describe Matt’s sound as vintage. Maybe it’s his smokey, sepia-drenched, croaky voice or his odd guitar tunings, but his music sounds as if its been soaked in a patina that conjures up a long lost era of Americana music, while still sounding every bit contemporary. Let’s check out the video for Requiem off his fantastic Post-War album and you’ll see what I’m talking about…

Live Matt may be one of the best guitar players out there –  deftly able to move between upbeat rockers and gentler finger picking acoustic numbers. For his recent stop at the Late Show, Ward treated the crowd to his ’50s pop-rock infused number Never Had Nobody Like You…

M. Ward will be playing several shows next week in Austin for SXSW, before heading back out onto the road in mid-April kicking off his tour with an appearance at Coachella.
