Friday Mix Tape: Rack of Jam

No real underlying theme in this week’s mixtape, but rather just a smattering of some jammy goodness. We’ll kick it off with a band that just dawned on me, probably does not get enough airplay around here, ALO, with a lively Franklin’s Tower complete with some crafty lyric swapping. Next up, from the same evening, we have another ALO tune, titled I Love Music, which according to the LMA commenters, has not been played since back in 2004.

From there, we’ll celebrate the return of an old favorite, the Big Wu, with one of their best, Two Person Chair. If you haven’t heard, the Big Wu is back in full swing and resurrecting their Big Wu Family Reunion on July 10-12 for an intimate 1,500 person festival in Geneva, MN.

In the middle section here, we have an acoustic Peggy-O from the Dead’s recent show in Washington D.C. with a nice Jerry tribute quote, a slower than the DMV rendition of Stop that Train from Steve Kimock’s Crazy Engine, and Panic with Luther Dickinson on Smoking Factory.

Last but not least, we’ll wrap up the week with 1 to 10 from the popular rising stars from Ithaca, Jimkata – a name which I can only hope comes from the amazingly random movie, Gymkata, with the tagline, “The skill of gymnastics, the kill of karate.”
