The producers of a number of this summer’s major festivals have had to scramble to replace the Beastie Boys after the band canceled all of their festival appearances due to Adam Yauch’s battle with a “very treatable” cancerous tumor. Yesterday, we learned that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have been added to Lollapalooza and that the producers of the long-running festie would not be offering refunds to Beastie fans who felt slighted.
This morning comes news that the producers of the All Points West festival have scored a major coup by landing Jay-Z’s first North American festival performance. APW organizers will only offer refunds for those who purchased single day tickets for Friday, not for those who purchased a three-day pass. We’ve got to imagine Goldenvoice paid Jigga a small fortune but it seems like a good move that should help drive ticket sales.
We’re still awaiting word from the Osheaga Festival, Outside Lands and the Austin City Limits festival about who will replace the Beasties on those bills.

Nice grab for the APW folks, definitely gels with the hip hop heavy line up they have on Friday.
