Allman Panic Tour: Extremely Sit-In Friendly

The highly anticipated Allman Brothers Band/Widespread Panic tour started with two shows chock full of sit-ins on Friday in Camden, NJ and on Saturday in Canandaigua, NY. On Friday, Widespread Panic’s John Bell and Sunny Ortiz joined the Allmans for I Walk On Guilded Splinters, Trouble No More, Good Morning Little School Girl, and Revival. Former Allman and current Panic guitarist Jimmy Herring was added to the mix for Dreams and stayed out for One Way Out without Bell and Ortiz.

Panic played the only guest-free set of the weekend in Camden but welcomed Brothers’ guitarist Derek Trucks for Bust It Big > Jam > Gimme on Saturday in Canandaigua. Later in that same set, Warren Haynes and Marc Quinones came out for Surprise Valley before Warren and Derek helped Widespread Panic conclude their set with Chilly Water.

The Allmans returned the favor that night by bringing out Panic keyboard wiz JoJo Herman – along with Chuck Campbell on pedal steel – for It Takes A Lot To Laugh It Takes A Train To Cry and You Don’t Love Me which also featured Dave Schools. Also, John Bell added vocals to And It Stoned Me and Jimmy Herring tore it up during Liz Reed. Southbound closed the Allmans’ set with Campbell, Herring, Herman and Todd Nance on drums. You can expect more setlists full of asterisks on Monday when the tour continues at the Meadowbrook US Cellular Pavilion in Guilford, NH.

  1. Awesome. This tour has some of the best guitar talent in the World – and it’s nice to see they are already collaborating.

Hitting up the show on Saturday in Mansfield.
