Recently, Phish announced pre-order details for one of the most ambitious merch products they’ve ever created – the Joy Box. This monstrous limited edition box set includes the CD plus 10 posters dedicated to each one of Joy’s 10 tracks each designed by a different artist, an extensive hard-bound booklet, as well as a “complete second album” called Party Time along with a DVD featuring some of Phish’s live performances from the first half of 2009.
As we told you last week, we’ve got two Joy Boxes to give away and you’ll have eight chances to enter our sweepstakes. Today, we’ve got our third question of eight and each answer you give will count as one entry in the contest. That’s right, you can enter eight times by answering all eight questions. Just don’t get greedy and answer the same question twice. This contest will run until September 25, 2009 at 11:59PM.

Phish brings me joy by bringing together people from all over for once central experience. At my girlfriend’s first Phish show this summer I told her to look around, and asked if she ever saw so many happy people in once place before. She said no.
It just reminds me of all the good times I’ve had… A Picture of Nectar and Lawn Boy reminds me of great summers. Rift and Junta are the winters… Billy Breathes takes me back to college. I’m ready to make some more memories with JOY!

After 5 years off, when they announced their return I actually thought that I was *over* phish. First notes of *stealin’ time* at GW quickly changed my mind. That led to three more shows second leg…Joy
I like how when you are at a show and Phish starts a tune. You have no idea where it’s going to go, but when it’s over you’ve had the best time getting there.
Well, Phish just makes me focus on the moment and forget everything else that is going on. PLus they write ridiculously good music.
I went and saw Phish at Darien a few weeks ago and they blew me away. The scale and the production of the event was simply amazing. This joy box set would compliment the Joy vinyl I recently pre-ordered!

I, like many other fans, dove head first into my career when Phish disbanded 5 years ago. It was so nice to put that back on the shelf, at least temporarily, and hit several shows on the tour this summer. Do I feel 25 again? No, but I do have a renewed sense of spirit and purpose.

when i’m driving in the minivan and i ask my 5 year old what he wants to listen to and he replies, “fee, then esther”. i can play junta for my boys and it’s so beautiful to me but for the kids it’s fun and that is one way that phish music brings me much happiness and joy.

Looking back on those days when my life was a haze…. I remember so vividly the second I knew that I was falling in love with this band. Mid-set of my first show is when the GLOW happened. The word Joy perfectly describes that glow, and I’ve been along for the ride ever since!
Their music is the sort of stuff that keeps me coming back. I go through many phases in musical taste per year according to season and mood, but Phish is the one mainstay i can always turn on and just feel good, about everything.
It really is just great music to listen to, and I feel good listening to it and going to concerts with great people that enjoy it as well.

Dancing and smiling at a show when you hit the “nothing else exists” point is one of the best feelings in the world.

One time when I was crossing the Robert Moses Bridge on the way to the beach, listening to Halley’s Comet, a strange feeling of utter happiness took over, and i was left with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face. No other group of musicians (aside from the Dead) has been able to do that.

With so much going on in my life (personal, professional, family, etc.) their music is able to combine it all into one singular and on-going experience that stands as a record of all that’s gone on (shows, friends, memories, landmarks…) all new and great to relive too.

The feeling that I got at Hampton ’09, upon their return, was like a goosebump incited panic attack then the utter explosion of the built up tension inside the mothership during the openning notes of Fluffhead was unreal. The energy and excitement that Phish provokes is unparrelled!

Phish’s music brings me joy by allowing me to enter a world that only I can experience, and channeling the emotion of the music through my body, whether its the sheer ecstasy of a sublime “Hood” or the emotional heartstrings of “Slave” or the straight-up rawk of “Bowie”.
Phish allowed me to be myself. As a confused teen, Phish showed me a different path musically, socially and mentally. Still today in my late twenties, when life seems to big and scary, Phish levels me out and allows me to see the joy of life.
Getting goose bumps at a live show…….hell, I am getting them just typing this!

Phish brings me joy because even though they are classically trained and serious musicians, they always were full of whimsy and a jokey atmosphere. The early 90’s was all about grrrrrreat music and happy feelings!
‘The Holy Sh*t Factor’. They take jams to places I never thought they could go. Always propels me back to personal experiences at shows where I have just been blown away.
I had immense phish-joy this summer in a whole new way. At 6am following each show I missed, I woke up and got to feed my baby to the show which just ended a few hours before.
Phish brings me joy by the way they bring energy to their performances night in and night out. Its a reminder of how art can transform people.
It lets me escape from the grind of daily life. I can live in a fantasy world where all problems melt away and i can truly live in the moment. A rare occurance that only Phish can make happen. Total Joy.
a couple of things that bring me joy about attending a Phish concert, are taking roadtrips and energy.
I’ve got a lot of great memories associated with Phish tunes (high school, college, road trips, concerts, etc.). Takes me back.

When one of my best friend’s died in a plane crash a couple years ago I didn;t talk to anyone for days and felt like the world as I know it just imploded. Didn’t answer phone, or emails, etc. Then, while I was running some errands in the city I had my iPod on shuffle and as I rounded the corner of Grand and Montrose, there some sort of small very vivd and colorful parade going on on the Avenue Del Puerto Rico. Jiboo came on. It all wove in and out of eachother and I finally smiled for the first time in a week. I was suddenly okay with having lost my buddy, knowing he went some place better, and that made me happy. That made me joyful
it cheers me up, no matter how bad i feel. because every show is an adventure, phish always gives me a reason to smile
The amazement that they can continually play such amazing jams.. improvisation.. and the take variations of the lyrics..
The first time I heard fish was at Bonnaroo this past summer. Every time I hear one of their songs, it takes me back to the festival and the fun I had with my friends.
