Grousing The Aisles: Wilco 10/9/2009

Wilco 10/09/2009 SBD [FLACs, V0 Tagged MP3 – SS, MU]

Many bands sell “official recordings” of their performances straight from the soundboard, but not Wilco. Occasionally Wilco will offer a free soundboard patch to tapers, but those nights have been few and far between.

Earlier this week the first soundboard that I’ve seen from 2009 surfaced on a few of the torrent sites and it sounds pretty good for a straight ‘board tape. This soundboard recording features a show from October 9th at The Palladium Ballroom in Dallas, TX. Wilco front man Jeff Tweedy – known for his witty banter – is particularly chatty on this night. Of particular note is Tweedy’s rant about people sitting at home complaining on the internet about setlists, an issue near and dear to our hearts.

As much as we like to hear Tweedy talk, we love hearing him sing and he does a stellar job on this night tackling the old standbys (Jesus Etc., You Are My Face), a rarity (2nd Cars Can’t Escape of ’09) and You Never Know from Wilco (The Album) with special guest Liam Finn. Other standouts are a groovy Theologians, an exploratory Bull Black Nova and the intense Impossible Germany guitar solo from Nels Cline.
