Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Some Rousing Rouse

A couple of Fridays back I headed over to Le Poisson Rouge in Manhattan’s West Village (formerly the famed Village Gate) to catch an intimate show from singer-songwriter Josh Rouse. Rouse, who’s been putting out albums for over a decade now, used the opportunity to showcase material from his upcoming album, El Turista – which will be released via Yep Rock on March 9 – while also treating the crowd to a mix of “hits” from his catalog.

The album, Rouse’s seventh studio effort, features a mix of songs sung in both English and Spanish, reflecting the influence of his current home for the last half decade in Spain – with the end result sounding at times like something between Paul Simon and Brazilian bossa nova music from the 1960s. Rouse was recently featured on the fantastically shot Take Away Shows – where they filmed Rouse in the streets of Barcelona, check it out…

Rouse, who kicks off the European leg of his world tour on March 4 in his new adoptive country, returns to the states in late April for a string of dates which will include a headlining show at New York’s Town Hall.
