Giveaway: Big Light @ Sullivan Hall

On March 13, San Francisco’s Big Light finally makes their New York City debut at Sullivan Hall. All of our West Coast friends have been raving about this band since they formed in 2007, so us New Yorkers couldn’t be more excited to check out these young rockers, especially after hearing their debut album Animals In Bloom – which comes out tomorrow.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Fred Torphy pens most of Big Light’s songs and gets his inspiration from the likes of My Morning Jacket, The Slip, Dr. Dog and Wilco. East Coasters may be familiar with the incredible guitar stylings of Jeremy Korpas from his days playing improv to Tron with Jersey’s Green Tag Sale. Big Light snatched Jeremy up when he moved out to California and we’re thinking this extremely underrated guitar player won’t stay underrated much longer.

As part of our Everybody Wins When We Plug Something And In Return They Offer Us Free Shit To Give Away program we’ve got a Big Light prize package to give away that includes a pair of tickets for the Sullivan Hall show and an autographed copy of Animals In Bloom. To enter, simply leave a comment telling us what you think about any of the songs on Animals In Bloom – which you can stream through the band’s website. Only one entry per person is allowed and the contest ends on March 10th. We’ll pick a winner at random and announce the winner on the 11th.

  1. Animals in Bloom reminds us that Rock and Roll should not be feared. Like a thunderous sea – forceful but revelatory – Big Light’s feature length debut is a complete work, with every track resonating with honesty, ferocity, and subtlety alike.

Anyone who still believes in Rock and Roll will love this album. I look forward to hearing more from Big Light in the future.

…oh yeah, and by the way, they KILL IT in concert!
