F4tF: Action Packed May Awaits

One of my favorite taquerias made the list.  Pinche Taqueria (their 2nd one) at 333 Lafayette St. (between Bleecker & Houston), 212-343-9977. Their fish taco is hands down my favorite in NYC.  If you don’t believe me,  here is what Serious Eats had to say about their fish tacos way back in August 2008 when they opened their first store at 227 Mott St .(between Prince and Spring) 212-625-0090.  You can find their taco menu on their website.  Be sure to check out all of the places in the Metromix article.

Second holiday up in May is Mother’s Day, Sunday May 9th 2010

Whether you are single or married with kids, Mother’s Day is the one day a year you cannot forget about.  Sure some skeptics will say “It’s a holiday made up by the greeting card industry”  but as we all know, the single busiest day in the restaurant business year after year.

Earlier this week, a NYC based website called Wined & Dined published a great list of Mother’s Day options here in New York City.  As the article says in the beginning Whether your looking for a champagne brunch or a multi-course dinner to share with Mom, NYC restaurants are rolling out some great menus and deals.  Many restaurants are offering complimentary mimosas, Bloody Marys, and champagne for Mom.  So get on the horn early ’cause May 9th will be here before ya know it.

You can find their full list of NYC Mother’s Day restaurants here

I may just have to check this one out, it looks real interesting (and good)

Inside Park at St. Bart’s:  Step inside St. Bartholomew’s church for a Polynesian feast complete with whole roast suckling pig, banana leaf and lemongrass-roasted mahi mahi, along with tropical drinks and leis galore (11 AM–3 PM; $39 per person; moms get a free drink from the tiki bar; $22 per child; 212-593-3333).

The third holiday weekend in May is Memorial Day

More on that in a couple of weeks… Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Speaking of the Mother’s Day rush, I know we did over 3500 at Tavern on the Green (what is happening with that location?) one Mother’s Day many years back.
BTW: Did you see the article about Truffles in Scientific American (of all places)? It is more about their symbiotic relationship then the culinary properties but it was interesting.

  2. Flywheel,

NYC awarded the contract to Dean Poll who runs the Central Park Boathouse. There has been an impasses due to the negotiations with the union.

Here is an excerpt from an article published in Crain’s NY Business on 4/2/10 “Last year, Mr. Poll who operates the Central Park Boathouse restaurant won the city’s bid to operate Tavern on the Green, but his deal with the city has not been finalized either—largely, sources say, because he can’t come to terms with the New York Hotel & Motel Trades Council, which represents Tavern workers.”
