GSW Wednesdays: Into The Sea

I must admit, I was taken by surprise when I saw God Street Wine on the list of initial artists on board for Jam Cruise 9. As soon as I got off of Jam Cruise 8, I realized how amazing seeing GSW on the boat would be and immediately started a drive to get them to JC9, but my efforts were stalled pretty quickly by God Street Wine drummer Tomo. When I made mention of the possibility of GSW on Jam Cruise he responded…

“I recall a certain ferry to Block Island when the seas tossed a bit and one of our own tossed quite a bit more. The image of the weary sailor on his knees under the door of the toilets for most of the journey is still pretty clear in my mind. Jamming and cruising for this band? Not gonna happen.”

Luckily Tomo and the band realized you can’t compare a small ferry to a huge cruise ship and God Street Wine will indeed be a part of Jam Cruise 9. With that in mind, we wanted to point you in the direction of the Block Island show which Tomo was referencing from Sept. 3, 1994 at Captain Nick’s.

Despite the issues the band members had on the ferry ride back to the mainland, GSW laid down a smoker on Block Isle. Highlights include the rare Drive That Car, a brief take on Can’t Find My Way Home, the intense Goodnight Gretchen jam and plenty of covers ranging from The Girl From Impanema to Any Major Dude to Express Yourself to I’m A Man. This show acts as a nice introduction to God Street Wine for those Jam Cruisers (and others) who haven’t heard any of the band’s music before.

  1. Ha! Yes, the size of this ship helped change my mind.
That and the large suitcase of unmarked bills.
