Friday Mix Tape: New Music Seminar

We’re not going to go with a theme this week as there has been so many great releases that are either already out, or are on their way into stores in the next week or so. With that in mind, I thought I’d use this week’s Mix Tape to take a look at a batch of songs from some obvious releases, and maybe a few that might be under the radar. So sit back, pop your headphones on or blast this playlist loudly from your speakers.

We kick things off with a little funky soul from Brooklyn’s own Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings with Better Things from I Learned The Hard Way. From there, we’ve got Hacienda with As You Like It which comes from their sophomore release Big Red & Barbacoa, that sounds like a mix of Los Lobos meets the Beach Boys. Then, we’ve got The National with Bloodbuzz Ohio, from their newest collection of brooding rock High Violet.

Next up is singer-songwriter Josh Ritter with Folk Bloodbath from  So Runs The World Away, that takes all your favorite folk song characters and literally kills them all off. Then we’ve got alt.country act Phosphorescent with a tune that has been getting a ton of play on my iPod this week Mermaid Parade, from their forthcoming record Here’s To Taking It Easy. Finally, we close things out with Band Of Horses’ Northwest Apartment from their highly anticipated third studio album Infinite Arms which hits stores this coming Tuesday. Here we go…
