SCI @ Horning’s Hideout: Update #2

The energy of the second set built off of the first set and multiplied into some expansive jams. The opening of the thought and dance provoking Black and White and a meandering extended version of Bob Marley’s Bend Down Low was a one-two punch that stirred up the frantic speed to open the set. The true musical monster of the night may have been the explosive version of Water that clocked in at over 16 minutes. Water was followed by a Dirk sandwich that contained a taste of Kool and the Gang’s classic Jungle Boogie as the filling. Bumpin’ Reel had an Electro-Irish Jig component that was all at once futuristic and traditional. The evening ended with another dose of the Soul Rebel Brass Band for the New Orleans Meters’ classic Hey Pocky Way.

Late night music options were aplenty, as we had to choose between Beats Antique’s global electronic dance party at the Saw Mill Stage, a fire dancing performance with multiple DJs and performers at the Caldara Stage and a classic groove lounge set at the Emerald Parlor by the aforementioned Sayers, Schwindt and Watts trio, which wound up being my choice once again. Why can’t every day be like this?
