Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Get Carried Away

During their hiatus from touring America, My Morning Jacket front man Jim James wasn’t the only member of the Southern-psychedelic-soul-rock act that took time to pursue and record music outside the band. The band’s “other” guitarist Carl Broemel will release his solo debut All Birds Say via ATO Records next Tuesday. Don’t go in expecting huge crunchy guitar riffs, as Broemel as has gone the singer-songwriter route on All Birds Say evoking the laid-back, folk-rock of Bobby Charles across its 11 songs.

Broemel, who with James was named one of Rolling Stone’s Top 20 New Guitar Gods, will play a handful of solo gigs, while his full-time band recently kicked off a brief stint as the support act for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers that brings them to the Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ tomorrow night. Look for an interview with Broemel on HT in the coming weeks, but in the meantime let’s check out this live in-studio performance of Carried Away…
