Preview: Giving Tree Band in Chicago

Yorkville, IL darlings The Giving Tree Band had an active spring/summer tirelessly touring the country spreading seeds of charming melodies, soothing harmonies and environmental stewardship. Perhaps you caught them in your town or at SXSW, Wakarusa, the Philadelphia Folk Fest, or Forecastle? If not they are definitely worth a listen. The Giving Tree Band truly emulates the heart of the Midwest; their rich sound combines rustic, old-time, indie folk tones with heartfelt narrative lyrics.

The acoustic octet’s third studio album The Joke, The Threat & The Obvious officially comes out September 21 on Crooked Creek Records. Similar to their 2009 release Great Possessions the band took an eco-friendly approach with production and packaging. The Joke, The Threat & The Obvious was recorded via renewable energy at the band’s home studio, and packaged with 100 % recycled materials. Adding to their green efforts, many of the band’s instruments were hand crafted from reclaimed wood and naturally fallen trees.

While The Giving Tree Band concluded their summer tour in August, Chicago fans have one more opportunity to catch them live Friday, September 10 at the House of Blues. The Giving Tree Band will celebrate their upcoming release with support from: JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound, How Far To Austin, and The Future Laureates.
