VIDEO PREMIERE: The Blackberry Bushes Stringband – “Brown Bird”

Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, The Blackberry Bushes Stringband’s acoustic sound is whimsical and rustic yet entirely modern. The group placed 2nd in Telluride Bluegrass Festival’s band competition (2009) and third in the Rockygrass Band Competition (2011) and has performed for fans at a growing number of notable bluegrass, Americana, and folk festivals.

Lead singer, flat-pick guitarist and songwriter, Jes Raymond, founded the band while earning her a degree in Music & Mythology from Evergreen State College in Washington. Her bandmates include Jakob Breitbach (fiddle), Daniel Ullom (mandolin), Forrest Marowitz (upright bass), and Alex Genova (banjo).

On August 28th The Blackberry Bushes Stringband releases a new album called Three Red Feathers, and we’re excited to premiere their new music video for one of the album’s standout tunes, “Brown Bird”. The video captures the playful spirit of the band while also giving the viewer insight to their musical world.

On the song and video, lead singer Jes Raymond says, “’Brown Bird’ is about noticing the small moments that make up the bigger story. It is about finding the time to take a breath and see beauty in the cracks and crannies of our days. We made this video with our friend Tommy Yacoe in Seattle, WA. [We] came up with the concept to evoke wonder in the mundane. We shot it in a park a few blocks from our house, and our good friend Jordan Bell played the part of the ‘muse’. It was on a Monday morning in the middle of a tour.”
