Dawes Part Ways With Keyboardist Tay Strathairn

As reported on their website today, Dawes have parted ways with keyboardist Tay Strathairn due to musical differences. Although the band hasn’t moved in an entirely different musical direction of late, it’s unfortunate the band has lost him since his deep organ harmonies were an essential part of the band. Strathairn, who once played with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros replaced keyboardist Alex Casnoff who left the Dawes in late 2010.

After many great years, due to musical differences, Dawes and Tay Strathairn have come to the difficult decision to part…

  1. Tay Strathairn was actually the original keyboardist for Dawes and was only briefly replaced by Alex Casnoff while Strathairn was with Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros. He said in an interview in 2013 that he’d been sober for three years, which is around the same time he came back to the band. Hope he’s doing well and that they all remain good friends.
