In September 2015 The Jayhawks entered Flora Recording and Playback studio in Portland, OR to record a batch of brand-new songs. They are partnering with PledgeMusic, the leading direct-to-fan platform,because they want their fans to have a window into the process of recording. The PledgeMusic edition of the album will include a second disc of demos and outtakes, unavailable anywhere else.

The yet-to-be-titled record is being produced by R.E.M.’s Peter Buck and Grammy-nominated Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, Neko Case, The Decemberists) and will be released on the Jayhawks’ newly minted Sham label in partnership with Thirty Tigers. Thirty Tigers is the independent music distribution company behind recent album releases from Jason Isbell, Lucinda Williams, Josh Ritter, Sturgill Simpson, and St. Paul and the Broken Bones.
The Jayhawks emerged from the Minnesota music scene in 1985 and first gained prominence as pioneers in an insurgent country-rock movement that eventually included artists like Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, Whiskeytown and Wilco. Over the course of eight albums, the band expanded their sonic palette to include pop, psychedelic and experimental sounds, all very much in evidence on the new batch of songs.
