GIVEAWAY: WIN Tickets to the Lebrewski Cruise And Read An INTERVIEW With Host Kyle Hollingsworth of String Cheese Incident

We’ve probably all had this fantasy before, that one where we’ve commandeered a badass ship stocked to the gills with delicious craft beer and nothing to do except watch rock and roll bands play while drinking said beer. This is the essentially the idea behind the first ever Lebrewski Cruise, which takes place March 1-5, 2016. Sailing out of Miami aboard the Norwegian Pearl, this four-night, full-charter inaugural voyage will visit tropical ports Nassau/Paradise Island and Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas and feature daily craft beer tastings; celebrity brewers participating in Q&A’s, meet & greets and events; live performances from over 20 bands. If that’s not enough to get you salivating, the cruise is hosted by brewer and member of The String Cheese IncidentKyle Hollingsworth (who is also performing). Check out the full lineup of brewers:

To give you an inside look at the awesomeness that is Lebrewski Cruise, we caught up with cruise host Kyle Hollingsworth, who recently wrapped up a fall tour with String Cheese Incident that culminated with their Hulaween Festival in Florida.

Did you personally have a hand in choosing the lineup?
To some degree yes, we recommended some bands and concepts, but more so we helped with the beer angle.

There seems to be a bit of a bend toward Southern and older rockers. Was that intentional?

Not really. Just like the variety in beer styles, there’s a wide variety of music across jam, Southern rock, Americana, Alt Country, Indie and more. Really a good mix that will make for a lot of unique and fun experiences to be enhanced with great beer.

The cruise is called Lebrewski. Can fans expect any Big Lebowski themed events on the cruise?
YES! We are shooting a fun take on this great film. From theme nights to bowling events, it’s gonna be awesome.

What kind of connections do you have in the craft beer industry and did you pick out the breweries?
I have been working in the brewing industry for many years. In fact I have made about 30 beers with national breweries over the last 6 years, from Stone to Boulder Beer to Cigar City, coast to coast. I feel there is a connection in how I approach brewing and musical improvisation. Taking chances is part of the creative process and can lead to spectacular results (well..mostly).

Do you homebrew these days, and if so what was the last brew you did?
Yup, I still have a great saison on tap here at the house. Going to work a good “festivale” for the holidays soon.

Do you have any more brewing collaborations in the works?
For this cruise I hope to be able to have at least 3 or 4 personally influenced brews.

Will fans get a chance to play you in beer pong or any other beer related game?
Hell yeah! Pin the tail on the brewer for sure.

What kind of activities will people be able to do off the ship at the cruise stops?
I’m hoping for a “brew day” with fans, either on shore or on the boat, plus lots more.

Will any of the other members of SCI (besides Kang and Hann) be coming on the cruise just for fun?
Probably not but I do want to invite “The Dude,” Jeff Bridges, on board. That would be epic!

  6. Which brewer am I looking forward to most? Surely you jest. The question is like asking me my favorite color. I’m not five years old any more. Variety is the spice of life. I’m certain I can avoid wheat beers and please don’t fruit my ale.

  7. How about that dogfish head! Though from the looks of it there’s some tasty heavy hitters on board! Bring on the hops!

  8. Ommegang. Hands down. Brews and bands on a boat?!? This sounds like a perfect dream trip and I would love to be able to go!

  9. Left Hand for sure! I love their Nitro Milk Stout especially on draft. But would love to see what all the other breweries bring to the table. Love some craft beer and Cheese!!!!!!!

  10. I am more excited about seeing O.A.R. and the big Cheese while on an extravagant cruise with a bunch of great vibes from all of the great people around than the beer. If I HAD to choose just one of those fine brews, it would have to be Funky Buddah! Because, you know, it sounds funky.

  11. Terrapin no doubt! Hopsecutioner brewed 50 miles from home in Athens and by far my favorite beer. Not to mention the cruise is during my birthday (March 4) and my favorite band being cheese would just make my year if I somehow won!

  12. I’m very familiar with Boulevard, but I’m excited to try Boulder and everything else. I lived, and drank, through Germany and would LOVE this trip!

  13. Gotta start with a dog. As an East Coaster Dogfish Head is my go to. Also wanna try whatever Kyle is mixin up. Yeewww!

  14. Funky Buddha in one hand, Hoppin’ Frog in the other while reliving old times jammin’ with Kim Wilson and the Fabulous Thunderbirds! Sail away indeed!

  15. Had the pleasure of visiting Funky Buddah a couple years ago and want to make sure they are still pleasing my palate! 🙂 Nice line-up of crafters, truly something for everyone – always nice to see a Meadery in there too, Redstone Rocks!

  16. Boulevard is the way to go! Kansas City is only a short distance from me and I am proud to say I love their beer! Cheers!

  17. Dogfish Head was my introduction to craft beer when I was in college 15 years ago, so I feel a sentimental connection with them. My tastes have evolved and changed over time, but I still respect DFH and would love to support them and drink some of their beers on the cruise.

  18. I can’t think of a better way to spend a vacation than by drinking some Founder’s on a cruise ship! Being from California, we have a ton of really great craft beer but nothing beats Michigan Founders!

  19. Left Hand makes my favorite domestic stout, but Cigar City has some awesome beers, as do Funky Buddha, and Terrapin. This is shaping up to be an awesome cruise!

  20. Here, Here to the Heavy Seas on LeBREWski Cruise, taking the #1 spot in my excitement agenda! Tough call with Terrapin also on board.
