SONG PREMIERE: Janiva Magness Gets Soulful On Cover Of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Long As I Can See the Light”

Janiva Magness has been through a whole lot in her long career as a singer, and with each lesson learned from the trials of life she has taken a bit of knowledge and applied it to her music. Her new album Love Wins Again, due out April 8th on Fathead Records/Blue Élan Records, is the accumulation of conquering heartbreak and hardship with love, just like the title suggests. You can hear Magness’ passion for her craft in the collection of songs that capture her doing what she does best, using her naturally soulful, bluesy voice to belt out songs that break down genre barriers of Americana, pop, roots, rock, and country. The album also marks Magness’ fifth collaboration with four-time Grammy nominated producer Dave Darling, whose credits include Glen Campbell, Brian Setzer, Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx, John Waite and Stray Cats, and the two clearly have some powerful chemistry in the studio.

Glide Magazine is excited to premiere one of the hardest hitting, emotionally poignant songs on the Love Wins Again, and interestingly enough, it’s a cover most of us have probably heard many times: Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Long As I Can See The Light”.

Speaking on the choice to cover this tune, Janiva Magness says, “That is one of my favorite songs of all time. I was delighted when Kirk Pasich (Blue Elan Records owner/president) asked if I would consider recording it. I had been waiting like a puppy at the door for a very long time to record that song. I’m so happy that we got to do it. It’s an ode to a moment when we embrace our mortality without fear, at least to me.”
