Tales From The Golden Road: Nate Currin Tour Diary – Week #3

For the month of May, Georgia singer-songwriter Nate Currin will be sharing weekly dispatches from his current tour in support of his newly released album ‘The Madman And The Poet’ (REVIEW). We are excited to let Nate take the reins and share his journey with us as he traverses the East Coast, Midwest and South of this great big country!

We’re now a month into the tour, and things are moving along…we’re roughly 20 shows in and it’s amazing how one show can lift your spirit or dampen your mood. The good thing about that is that if you have a rough night, you only have to wait until the next night to hopefully turn things around. We had a string of good shows in Knoxville, Nashville, and several spots in Kentucky. Nashville was one of our highlights, as it was a homecoming for the guys in the band – getting a chance to play in front of friends at the High Watt.

One thing that touring will teach you is flexibility. We arrived at the White Squirrel Brewery in Bowling Green to a friendly atmosphere yet a raucous crowd. And then learned we needed to perform a two hour set. We quickly found that the majority of the drinking crowd wanted to hear cover songs, which we generally don’t do at all. So, for 2 hours we did a mix of originals along with covers that we literally pulled out of our butts. Once again…flexibility.

On the string of 6 nights in a row, it’s nice to have a day off, and so we got two straight days off in Kentucky and had a chance to go caving. On Monday, we visited Mammoth Caves – the longest cave system in the entire world. On Tuesday, we drove up to Indiana Caverns in Corydon, Indiana and not only got a private tour, but took a boat through the main cave, which was pretty incredible.

Today, we’re on our way up to Chicago after a wonderful show in Indianapolis last night seeing friends and sharing the stage with a buddy here. So, with Chicago tonight and Wisconsin tomorrow night we continue our trek north! A week from now we’ll be in sunny Florida and we’ll be trading this cooler weather for what looks to be a hotter spell for the remainder of the tour.

Check out Week #1 and Week #2!
