Elephant 6 Collective Hitting The Road Again

Members of the indie rock Elephant 6 Collective will once again hit the road together for next year’s Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise Tour. The trek features members of Elf Power, Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal, The Music Tapes, The Olivia Tremor Control and more.

The collective last toured together in 2008.

One thing that might surprise fans is that the upcoming tour takes place in February and March rather than during the traditional holiday season. Perhaps Elephant 6 would rather celebrate Groundhog Day, Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day rather than Christmas and Hanukkah.

According to Ground Control Touring, the 2011 edition of the Elephant 6 orchestra will feature the following musicians: Will Cullen Hart, Bill Doss, Peter Erchick, John Fernandes, Julian Koster, Scott Spillane, Andrew Rieger, Laura Carter,  Derek Almstead, Heather McIntosh, Bryan Poole, Theo Hilton, Robbie Cucchiaro and others.

The musicians will take turns playing various instruments and tunes from The Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power, Circulatory System, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Gerbils, Nana Grizol, Major Organ and Adding Machine, Pipes You See, Pipes You Don’t, The Instruments and The Late B.P. Helium. The audience will also enjoy games, film and other surprises.

The fun begins Feb. 24 at Whirlyball in Roswell, Ga., with dates on the books through a March 26 gig at the King’s Barcade in Raleigh, N.C.

The collective will also perform in Dallas (March 1), Los Angeles (March 4), San Francisco (March 5), Seattle (March 9), Denver (March 12), Minneapolis (March 14), Chicago (March 15), New York (March 23) and Philadelphia (March 24).
