VIDEO PREMIERE: Elise Davis Shares One Car. One Mic. One Guitar. Performance of “Pretty Girl”

Arkansas native Elise Davis just released her debut album The Token and she is already grabbing the attention of fans and journalists who are drawn to her stark, brooding Americana. Davis exudes as much soul as she does angst, and ultimately what we come away with are potent, infectious songs that everyone can relate to. On the one hand, this is the kind of stuff that made Lucinda Williams so appealing in the 90’s, but it’s also the kind of sound being pursued by the likes of country acts like Kacey Musgraves, although Elise Davis seems to walk a darker, harder rocking road.

To accompany the album, Davis has put together a series of videos with the premise of One Car. One Mic. One Guitar. As those words suggest, the videos feature the singer-songwriter in the back of an old car as she strums an electric guitar and sings songs off The Token. The darkened lighting reflects the mood of the music, and in each video you can picture yourself sitting next to Davis as she plays while you travel down a lonesome country road. Today we are excited to premiere the video for one of the standout songs on The Token, “Pretty Girl”, right here on Glide Magazine.

Reflecting on the song, Davis says simply, “‘Pretty Girl’ was written the morning after a night I’d found myself experiencing an interesting dynamic involving a seemingly lovely woman and a man I’d known from experience was someone she shouldn’t have been wasting time being sad about.”
