Netflix Announces Release Date for ‘Iron Fist’

Hot on the heels of Luke Cage’s premiere last week comes a big announcement from Marvel and Netflix. The next chapter in their The Defenders saga, Iron First, has finally gotten a release date. The new series, the fourth from Netflix and Marvel, is set to premiere on March 17, 2017. The announcement was made with a short teaser that revealed little beyond the premiere date. Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) stars as the titular hero, who is bestowed with mystical powers and a mastery of Kung Fu. The news comes after months of speculation that the third season of Daredevil wouldn’t come until early 2018, which makes sense now since Iron Fist will be taking the release period Daredevil usually occupies. This, of course, will all eventually lead to the massive team up, The Defenders, which is rumored to be premiering sometime in late 2017.

‘Suspiria’ Remake A Go For Amazon

suspiria

Amazon Studios has signed on to produce a remake of the 1977 cult horror classic, Suspiria. Director Luca Guadagnino (A Bigger Splash) has been tapped to bring Dario Argento’s original to a modern audience, and Dakota Johnson (How to be Single) is set to star opposite Tilda Swinton (Doctor Strange) and Chloe Grace Moretz (Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising). It seems to be a risky move for everyone involved, given the cult popularity of Argento’s original film but, given the film’s influence on Guadagnino’s home of Italy, it does make a kind of sense. Still, given the current climate of moviegoers who are growing increasingly tired of remakes and reboots, they’re going to have to make this something really special if they’re going to win over their detractors.

‘American Horror Story’ Renewed for Seventh Season

ahs

FX has renewed their hit series American Horror Story for a seventh season just weeks after season six premiered to resounding success. The premiere of season six was one of the network’s highest rated nights to date, and the series currently holds 12 of the networks top 15 highest rated airings. Given the success of both the current season and the series overall, it’s no shock that FX would want to continue its money train for as long as possible.
