Film Bits: ‘The Mummy’ Releases First Teaser; James Gunn Unveils ‘The Belko Experiment’; New ‘Rogue One’ Clip Shows Off Jyn Erso’s Skills

Mummy: Impossible–‘The Mummy’ Looks Equal Parts Pointless and Fun

So they’re remaking The Mummy. Again. That’s cool. While there’s little doubt that it will be neither as scary as the Boris Karloff classic nor as fun as the Brendan Fraser…well, not classic…it does star Tom Cruise which, sure. Also there’s helicopters. And Russell Crowe. And the mummy is a girl this time. Are we sure this isn’t Mission: Impossible 6? I’d watch Ethan Hunt vs a mummy, no question. Though I’m told that The Mummy is not, in fact, the next entry in the M:I series, from the brief look we have in this teaser trailer, which teases the trailer being released later this week, it certainly kinda looks like the next entry in the M:I series, and that counts for something. I guess. We’ll know more when the proper trailer is released this Sunday. The Mummy opens June 9, 2017.

‘The Belko Experiment’ Looks Like Classic James Gunn

the-belko-experiment

My biggest fear about the success of Guardians of the Galaxy—a movie that I do love—was that it’s wide acclaim would keep director James Gunn from his smaller projects. Those fears were unfounded, however, and his latest film, The Belko Experiment, is due out early next year. While Gunn didn’t direct the movie, which finds an entire office building locked down while a disembodied voice tells the drones to kill their co-workers under penalty of more of their co-workers being killed, he did write the screenplay, and based on the trailer we got, it’s still infused with his trademarked wit and writing style. The film stars John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox from Scrubs), Sean Gunn (Kirk from Gilmore Girls), and Michael Rooker (Merle from The Walking Dead) in what looks to be a satire that blends both horror and comedy. The trailer is a red band, so there is violence and language and you may not want to watch it at work…especially since it might give some bosses a few ideas. The Belko Experiment opens March 17, 2017.

New ‘Rogue One’ Clip Showcases Jyn’s Badassery

Rogue One Trailer

We’ve seen the trailers and ridden the wave of buzz surrounding Rogue One for months now. With two weeks left to go until its debut, the excitement has built to a fever pitch as fans wait to see what the first Star Wars film outside the frame of the original saga will be like. A newly released clip from the movie gives us some idea. While nothing major is revealed about the plot, the clip shows off Felicity Jones’ fighting skills as Jyn Erso as she faces down a squad of Storm Troopers (who are every bit the poor shots you’d expect them to be). If the whole tone of the film is like this, this is exactly the Star Wars movie we need right now. Is it December 16 yet?
