In an interview with USA Today, Star War Episode VIII director Rian Johnson revealed a few tidbits of information regarding the next entry into the main saga. In typical Star Wars fashion, the director held back on specifics, but did note that the next episode would “be a blast,” stating that he was looking for fun instead of dark. He went on to say that we would definitely be delving deeper into the stories of the three heroes introduced in The Force Awakens, Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac). “I wanted to know more about each of them, and that doesn’t just mean information or backstory. Figure out what’s the most difficult thing each of them could be challenged with now — let’s throw that at them and dig into what really makes them tick by seeing how they handle that.” He also stated, to no one’s real surprise, that the Rey and Luke Skywalker would forge a deep connection. Johnson also revealed that he’s known the title of Episode VIII for years now, and that we can expect a reveal very soon.

Though fans have been eager to return to the world of Mad Max: Fury Road since the reboot debuted two years ago, so far nothing but rumors have come from the desire. Rest assured, however, that star Tom Hardy is every bit as excited as you are at the possibility. In a new interview with The Wrap, the once and future Max said, “I don’t know when that starts, but I believe that’s in the books. There’s a couple of those floating around. I’m waiting for the call to come.” That’s solid news for fans, who found the Mad Max series returning to form in the fourth entry, which came three decades after Mel Gibson last took the role. Things may move slowly in The Wasteland, but it’s better than no movement at all.
