SONG PREMIERE: Big Something’s “Passenger” Resounds With Roots Inventiveness

North Carolina versatile rocker Big Something will be releasing their fourth studio album entitled Tumbleweed, on February 24th, 2017. Having just announced a run of shows with Umphrey’s McGee this spring and this new LP right on the horizon, Big Something is surely about to become what their name suggests. With sensational live shows that make use of no rules and endless possibilities based on BIG energy, BIG musicianship and BIG surprises, the album was a natural step in their progression and based on the darker tone on some of the album’s tracks, poignancy and lyrically conscious song-structure rises to the forefront.

Glide is thrilled to premiere “Passenger” off Tumbleweed, a rowdy rocker that combines both heartfelt bluegrass and rock elements, while delivering a cathartic melody, making for a “cant fail pick me up.”

“Passenger” really took on a life of its own in the studio. We changed up the drum parts a little, added some new pedal steel licks, acoustic guitar, mandolin, and some awesome new vocal harmonies and it all really brought the song to its full potential,” says singer Nick MacDaniels. “This is probably the most unique sounding track on the album with its bluegrass shuffle and country twang, but at its core there’s still a tried and true Big Something rock song about watching life pass you by.”

“Passenger” is one of my favorite tracks on the album because of its North Carolina flavor, “says drummer Ben Vinograd. “We have all come to love Carolina and call it home even though several of us are not originally from here. We’re always surrounded by such great roots and Americana music here and that definitely seeped into our subconscious on this track.”

“I feel like “Passenger” hits really close to home,” adds lead guitarist Jesse Hensley. “The lyrics are so relatable for so many situations that life can throw at you. It’s a song that everyone can relate to on some level.”
