Alberta Cross: Hudson Hotel, NY, NY 4.27.11

It is always exciting when a band steps out of the recording studio to showcase some new tunes live and Alberta Cross did just that on Wednesday night in the middle of Manhattan.  The Brooklyn based 5 piece is following up their well received Broken Side of Time with songs that are aching to be played in huge arenas.

The opener was the new single “Money For The Weekend” which will be featured in the upcoming Ketel One commercials as the show on this night was also sponsored by the vodka.  The track has a killer bass line and some over-driven guitars to amp up the action.  The chorus dominates and continues the tried and true vein of “living for the weekend” rock ditties.

“Laydown” was another new offering that had a southern rock feel with its looping riffs and stomping drums.  The highlight of the night was the groups set closer “ATX” with its slide guitar and reverb vocals.  The crowd ate it up, singing along with front man Petter Ericson Stakee as six string solos flew all around.

Alberta Cross takes the 70’s rock feeling, but injects in some English despair; a double bill with The Drive-By Truckers would be a dream as both bands turn the amps up and put unique spins on the arena rock formula.        Money For The Weekend Clip by Alberta Cross
